This painting represents the year 1905, June 20th, at precisely four o'clock and twelve minutes. Everything seems normal and yet, so many things are happening on Dufferin Terrace in Quebec.

Two Carmelite nuns, sister Blanche and sister Scolastique, the morning of this very day, had decided to be on the run for an afternoon only to have some fun.
After lunch, they escaped from the convent through a small door in the back of the building. They ran to the neighbour, a farmer, Arthur Boucher, to borrow his twin-bicycle.
And there, they went speeding on the Beaupré Coast. stopping from time to time to catch their breath.
At 4 p.m. sharp, they finally reached Quebec City, and twelve minutes later, they were injoying their escapade on Dufferin Terrace.

Sister Scolastique saw two monks strolling along. She recognized an old class mate from 20 years passed, Robert Tanguay who also had had the same idea for a stroll of his own on Dufferin Terrace, the very same day with his friend monk Louis de la Chevrotière.
Both of them had become monks at the same time. Farther Tanguay, at this very moment recognised Sister Scolastique, his beloved, to whom he had never dared revale his love.
The two distracted nuns, had not noticed Mr Hubert Gagnon crossing the Terrace, walking his dog with his cane. At the same moment, frightened by the tandem coming straight at him, Hubert Gagnon let go of his black dog Médor, who ran towards his mortal ennemy, Mrs Bellechasse's dog. She was breast feeding her baby on the public bench. The baby had cried all day.
That afternoon, she had gone walking with her four children on Dufferin Terrace.

An old man, Nestor Destroismaisons, was sitting next to her reading his newspaper. He was scuffled many times by Mrs Bellechasse and her kids until he noticed with great joy this young woman, breast feeding her baby. After so much scuffling, he finally realized that he had been wise not to complain. This very moment on June 20th 1905, at 4h12 p.m., was an outstanding moment in his life.
At the same time, Mr Isidore Laframboise was strolling alo ng with his grandchildren and came under the bandstand to hide from the hot sun.

Moreover, he wanted to avoid meeting with Mr Cantin who was walking the Dufferin Terrace everyday as usual, wearing her white dress and one of those magnificent feather hats, from her supplier on St-John Street in Quebec.
Mr Laframboise knew her very well. During the day, she was showing off with her nice dresses. By night, she deguised herself as a beggar, curled up in a doorway on St-Paul Street. He was the only one to know.. and she was not aware that he knew!
Mrs Henriette Rioux, who also was walking along that day with her three last boys and their roller horse, a gift from their grandfather. It was a mistake to bring along the dog as he rushed immediatly towards his mortal ennemy Médor, who was also rushing towards him.
Isabelle Martineau was taking her two daughters for a walk that day.

She was gazing at the St-Lawrence River thinking that very soon, she would take the ferry to Ile d'Orléans with her husband ans kids to visit her aunt. Every year, her aunt welcomed her with fresh flowers from her garden.
Suddenly, she heard somebody calling her "Isabelle, Isabelle..".Behind her, was her childhood friend Justine. They were classmates at the Ursulines. It is 4h12 p.m. Justine confided in her that her fiancé had left her, the reason being that Justine's father was not as wealthy as he thought.
There was a cheerful atmosphere on Dufferin Terrace that day. A small orchestra was playing Strauss Waltzes, greatly appreciated by the strollers.

Little Ursule was rolling in happyness. Last spring for her fourth birthday, her uncle from the States, gave her a baby carriage in which her doll was asleep. While feeding Odile, the mother had given permission to Ursule along with her older sister and her younger brother to stroll along the Terrace.
I was going to forget Mrs Bissonnette. After a big quarrel with her husband, she had rushed away to the Dufferin Terrace. Her husband, conscience stricken, recaptured her this very same day at 4h12 p.m.
All these events we happening on June 20th, 1905, at exactly 4h12 p.m. because for me the time stood still at this very moment. After that I do not know what happened. It is up to you to continue further.
