Pierre Beaulé (Brother
Régis-Arsène)
1906 - 1976
Pierre,
born December 23, 1906, is the youngest child of the family.
He grew up on the family farm and, like his brothers and sisters,
he did his chores.
At the early age of five, he showed great piety being faithful
to daily prayer, saying the rosary with the family and attending
Sunday Mass which often required great effort.
August 20, 1919, accompanied by an uncle who was a religious
brother, Pierre entered the Marist Brothers' boarding school
in Levis. Even though as a young student, he was already suffering
from rheumatoid arthritis, Pierre still took part in school activities.
He was a good student. The only reproach his teachers had against
him, was that he was an incorrigible prankster, a trait that
he kept throughout his life. Some found his pranks very amusing,
others said he was the grand master of outrageous pranks.
The
numerous testimonials received on Brother Pierre (Régis-Arsène)
talk about the man and excellent religious he was throughout
his life. He had inherited his father's strong will. Only his
strong temperament permitted him to overcome his painful ailments
that he endured all his life.
No one ever saw Brother Pierre idle. The time that was not spent
at prayer or frequent reading, he used for small chores inside
or outdoors. His preferred pastime was the cultivation of flowers.
Among the flowers he would forget his pain and this agreeable
hobby relaxed him.
Adept storyteller, he took pleasure in relating stories of the
past, all the while respecting the people he had known. He was
humble enough, that he would not always give himself the "starring
role" in the stories he told.
He spent his life quietly doing good. His goal no doubt, was
to carry out the responsibilities he was given and without even
being noticed. He went his way without caring what others thought
or said of him.
Pierre (Régis-Arsène) died in the night of November
4, 1976 at the Marist Brothers' infirmary in Iberville at the
age of 70 and in the 53rd year of his religious life.
In the photo on the left, we see (left to right)
Brothers: Eugene Boulet, Lorenzo Boulet and Pierre Beaule.
Brother Pierre entered the novitiate in St-Hyacinthe on September
2, 1922, he pronounced his first vows on August 15, 1924 and
his perpetual vows on August 26, 1929 and his vow of stability
on July 2, 1949.
Over the years he was cook, student, professor,
director, assistant principal and when he could have gone into
a well deserved retirement he chose to hold the position of receptionist.
A special thanks to the Marist Brothers for their collaboration
in writing this page. They furnished me precious information
on the life of Brother Pierre.
