INTER-MISSION theatre was founded in the
summer of 1992 under the original name Shadow puppets by C.
Hamlet Roney and consisted of nine friends who performed a
collection of sketches and presentations with a Christian
evangelical theme.
By the summer of 1994 the decision was
made to mount a full-length production and with this came a
change in company name, to INTER-MISSION. “In Larcon's
Name…” was featured that summer to great reviews as a new
and young theatre company began to make its mark, while
maintaining it's moral base.
1995- Twin Princes opened to with what
the Church deemed as controversial themes and means to
express them. Twin Princes was remounted and performed at
such venues as Dorval Youth Horizons, and Shawbridge with
great success.
The company made a choice to leave the
comfort of the Church and pursue the themes and messages
that it wished to convey. Over time, direct Christian themes
were dropped, as the characters individual struggle with
attempting to find his/her own place in the word became
a constant theme. Most of the works reflecting C. Hamlet
Roney's, the resident playwright's, current struggles and
challenges in life.
Austin of Gilliot open for the first time
in 1996.
Dance Me Through Sodom, the story of a
director attempting to mount a gay themed play while dealing
with the church and struggles in the gay community continued
to reflect the company's willingness to take risks and mount
the productions it felt conveyed honest reflections of life.
Austin of Gilliot , was remounted with a
new cast, while the Second Stage Department was created to
assist new writers and directors mount productions. Franco
Proietti's, Abra Cadaver was featured.
During the summer of 1999 the company
began to look at the presentations in a new light and “The
Madonna Cover Concert, featuring Venus” was presented and
the company became, INTER-MISSION Theatre&Productions.
For three years the company took a break.
