On 18 June 1994, at 1200 Hrs will be held at the Royal 22nd Regiment Monument (in front of the Manege Militaire Grande-Allee), a commemorative ceremony in memory of Corporal Daniel Gunther of the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, who died on the 18th of June 1993 in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

At Buci, near Visoko in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on the 18 June 1993, Corporal Daniel Gunther is at his post, well jammed into the turret of his vehicle. As soon as he arrives at his post, bullets whistle and smack near the detachment vehicle. No one can distinguish from where those bullets are coming.

Around 1200 Hrs, without any forewarning or reason, a belligerant faction deliberately launches an anti-tank rocket on the vehicle in which Corporal Gunther and two of his comrades are situated. The rocket hits the part of the vehicle where Corporal Gunther is and kills him instantly. Corporal Gunther was a very good soldier. One of the best. He was professional in his work, disciplined and empassioned by his work. We all regret losing him. He left in bereavement, his spouse Marie-Josée, his son Alexandre, his parents, and his many friends.
