When a company gives money to fight cancer or to build a hospital for sick children, this money does not come out of their margin profit, it comes out of their income tax. It is not money they give to the actual cause, it is money they take away from the government. Basically, giving income tax deductions for charity is allowing companies to spend public money the way they want to, without government or public involvement. Do you think the needy can claim income tax deduction to aid their cause? Who gets the accolades for building the hospital? The company. Who paid for it? Everybody.
