The pleasure is all mine

Jonas is the last survivor of the continent of Atlantis. Jonas is eternal as long as the sun shines on Atlantis. The sun always shine on Jonas. Jonas has nowhere to go, no one to see, nothing to do. Jonas is.

One fine day, Jonas stepped on the porch of the door. With no purpose to be on one side or the other, he stopped to listen to the doorman. Jonas stopped to listen to the one who is there when all crossing overs happen, when all wise - or not so wise - men and women broke on through to the other side.

The doorman is he who opens doors, he who allows one to move on. The doorman knows, the doorman is he who was there when the ancients and the wise ones stepped through the porch and reached the next level. The doorman is he who knows what lays on both side of the door yet he belongs to neither side, he belongs on the porch. He never moves away, he is always at the door. No one shall pass without his knowledge. No one shall pass without his acceptance.

The doorman is the only one who can go freely to and fro, a hither and a thither. He is the one which can go unhindered. Yet, he is the one who does not go. He has no destination, no particular place to go. He forever stands on the porch. He forever stays at the door. He is always in his place.

The wisdom acquired by the doorman is believed to be unfathomable. Every wise traveller has had to find his own path to be allowed past the door. His own and not others'. All must cross alone. Alone, alone with the doorman as only witness. The doorman is the only one who knows how any one got to pass the door. The only one who knows everybody’s path. The one who knows what side of the door you are supposed to be.

The doorman is a man of a few words. He does not need to speak or share, he is there to hear your plea, and he lets you pass - or not. If more would listen to the wisdom of the doorman, many would learn more than they even knew they ignored. But few spare time for the doorman, hurried on their way. This side of the door, to and fro, hither and thither, everybody feels they belong somewhere. Somewhere, but not here.

The doorman knows the value of the porch. In an existence in which all is impermanent and all rooms are only filled with meaninglessness leading to another door leading to another room leading to more meaninglessness, the doorman knows the ever importance of the door. The rooms may be meaningless but the passage of the door always means something.

Without a door, a space is always only an enclosed jail. Without a door opening or closing, a path is only more of the same. A Tao without a Te. It is only by stepping through the door that you know you are somewhere else. Somewhere else but not here.
