The beach is within walking distance across Collins Avenue with access alongside the Golden Strand Hotel.

All the following amenities are also within walking distance; a large Publix supermarket, banks, post office, late night store, Walgreen's drug store with pharmacy and liquor store, fast food chain outlets and restaurants, car rental companies and cinemas. There is also a medical practice on Collins Avenue and a hospital close by.

The Aventura Shopping Mall is across the William Lehman Causeway, with Bloomingdales and Maceys to name but two of its anchor stores. In the Loehman's Plaza on US 1, just south of the William Lehman Causeway, there is a large Barnes and Noble book store, a cinema complex (with all the latest movies) and some good restaurants.

For those not driving, a convenient and regular bus service operates on Collins Avenue.

Local Places of Interest

Heading North on Collins Avenue, the A1A, at Dania is the John U Lloyd State Park.  This is a huge recreational park located on the beach with picnic & barbecue areas & many amenities. Superb location for a family day spent at the beach.

Going south on Collins Avenue, the AlA, at Haulover Park there are sight seeing boats which tour the Bay Harbor Islands showing celebrity homes and offer daily trips to Miami bay , the Bayside Market in Downtown Miami Viscaya, and the Metro Zoo. Just a little further south from Haulover is the famous Bal Harbor shopping complex with its Designer label clothing and accessories.

The Art Deco district is located between 5th and 26th Street, each side of Collins Avenue, the area known as South Beach. Here, over the last ten years, there has been a rejuvenation from being, as it was, a venue for retirees, to an area which pulsates with young people enjoying the ambience of the beach side cafes, bars, restaurants, night clubs and discos. This rejuvenation has not just been confined to the beach area, but has spread to the streets behind the beach where art galleries, arts and crafts stores, book shops, health food stores and good restaurants have opened. Many artists rent studio space in this area and the Miami City Ballet Company has its school here. Also located in this South Beach area is the Jackie Gleason Theatre, which stages many major productions and along from the Theatre are the new huge exhibition halls of the Miami Beach Convention Centre.

Of the older parts of Miami, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove are worth a visit. The Gables area is where Miami really started, and where the older, wealthy families built their luxury homes and mansions. The area has fine small specialist type shops and good French cuisine restaurants. Coconut Grove has a variety of shops from clothes to antiques, some first-rate galleries and a myriad of restaurants catering to all palettes. The atmosphere is vibrant, like South Beach, with an upbeat mood. For late night dining with atmosphere the Grove has it all.

Sport

For the horse racing enthusiast in the Spring time there is racing at Gulf Stream, Hallandale, just a ten minute drive away. Also at Caldor and Hialeah, not more than a forty minute's drive.

There is also greyhound racing at Hallandale, just ten minute's away.

There are a numerous number of golf courses very close to the location and many are open to non-members and welcome day visitors. At Haulover there is a public course. At Aventura, just over the William Lehman Causeway is the famous Turnberry Isle Country Club (five minute's away). A drive south to Miami is the equally well-known Doral Country Club where International tournaments are played. The William's Island Country Club is a ten minute drive with its magnificent mature grounds and golf course and tennis courts.

For the Sports fishing enthusiast daily fishing trips are offered at Haulover Park and at most marinas,    For serious game f ishing a trip to the Florida Keys is a must.    From any of the
marinas daily charter boats are available.

The wonderful year-round warmth of the sea make this a snorkler ' s and scuba diver' s dream location. The water is clear and the sea life in abundance.  Enjoy memorable swimming,
snorkelling or diving on the Coral Reef at John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo. For the non-water enthusiast enjoy an equally absorbing experience by taking the glass-bottomed boat trip which operates in the State Park.

For those wishing to learn to dive, practically nearly all marinas and sports' outlets offer, or can arrange scuba-diving lessons and open water experience for the novice diver. Florida is really a great place in which to learn to dive. The sea water conditions are absolutely ideal year round.

For those people interested in boating, Fort Lauderdale, a 30-40 minute drive north with its intricate pattern of canals and superb marinas is a yacht man's paradise. 'The small shops and good restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard are worth a visit, as is the local Museum which often exhibits important international collections.

The Kennedy Space Center and Orlando (Disney World) are approximately a 5-6 hour drive north.

The Everglades are located one hour's drive due west. Visit the Everglade's State Park to learn about the ecology of the area; the bird life and fauna, observe the alligators in their natural environment and experience a unique boat ride in a famous Everglade's flat-bottomed boat, especially designed to skim across the surface of shallow water.

The West Coast of Florida - The Gulf of Mexico - continuing in a westerly direction from the Everglades, the picturesque towns of Naples and Sarasota, as well as Marco Island. are well worth a visit.

The Florida Keys are located south of Miami and can be reached by either taking a leisurely drive on US1 or via the Florida Turnpike, which is a tolled road, and faster. The Turnpike can
be joined from our location by heading in a westerly direction and then southwards for the Keys Local maps clearly indicate the Turnpike access points

The Keys have a much more 'laid back' atmosphere compared with the hustle and bustle of Miami, South Beach and Coconut Grove. Starting from Key Largo (approximately a 1 hour drive from North Miami Beach via the Turnpike) and extending to the US's most southerly tip at Key West, the Keys form a narrow chain of islands with the Atlantic Ocean lapping the shore line on one side and the Gulf of Mexico the other. Between the islands the two water systems meet. Here the waters are warm, shallow and clear. Fish life is in abundance. This is the sports fisherman's and scuba diver's paradise. For the not-so-keen water enthusiast the Keys offer some fine restaurants and breath taking sunsets. Key West at Florida's southern point offers the tourist a myriad of entertainment with fine restaurants, bars open all night, street cafes, theatre, concerts, art galleries, craft shops and much more. Ernest Hemingway's house is also located in Key West and is open daily to the public.

Whatever one's interests, be it sport; swimming, fishing, boating, scuba diving, or leisure activities, sight seeing, shopping, fine dining or just relaxing on the beach, the location is ideal and offers a first-class base from which to enjoy all manor of pursuits..
