| «La grande cotonnerie, rue St-Ambroise» mentionnée au début du chapitre 23, près de la maison de Marguerite, était en fait «La Marchande» (le nom original de la compagnie), qui faisait partie de Dominion Textiles au moment où Gabrielle Roy a connu St-Henri. L'usine était au nord et au sud de la rue; l'annexe nord est visible sur la photo de la rue St-Zoé. L'usine du côté sud de la rue St-Ambroise est aujourd'hui convertie en bureaux et ateliers, on y trouve même un restaurant chic. La canal Lachine est au sud de l'usine. | The "grande cotonnerie, rue St-Ambroise" mentioned at the beginning of chapter 23, near Marguerite's home, was "La Marchande" (the original name of the company) which was part of Dominion Textiles by the time that Gabrielle Roy arrived in St-Henri. The factory was on both the north and south sides of the street, the northern annex is visible in the photo of St-Zoé street. The factory on the south side of St-Ambroise is now divided up into offices and workshops and there is even a fancy restaurant. The Lachine Canal is on the south side of the factory. |
