4th Period - Royal Canadian Mounted Police The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada's federal police force, was created in 1873 and was originally called the North West Mounted Police. In 1904 King Edward VII granted the prefix "Royal" to the force, in recognition of its services to the country. Many souvenirs celebrate this legendary organization, some is the best china, other of a popular and even gaudy nature. The central figure is either the force's badge or a Mounty in a red serge tunic on horseback.
