A  Man

            This is an optional assignment to replace one quiz.  Size: 1500 words maximum, worth 5%, or worth 10% if your mark is above your average for the term.  The due date is any time in the last five weeks of the semester. 

            Write an essay on a man.  He might be a member of your family, an acquaintance, a historical figure, partly yourself, or imaginary.  Describe his hopes, accomplishments, and failures.  Describe how this man fulfilled or failed in his life at the traditional or modern male virtues of duty, loyalty, courage, protection and service to others, in public or private.  You could write about your father, a friend, a coach, teacher, politician, businessman, minister of religion, hero, homeless vagrant, criminal, fireman, soldier, or your parts of your life.  Your mark will be based on evidence that you have learned the lessons presented in this course, and literary style, and insight.
