It's been a year since the Reception's farewell, and we've all gone our separate ways. We've long since gotten rid of our hoodies and t-shirts, and we finally sold the van! Although we've closed up shop, I hope you're still enjoying the music!

Thanks for listening!

Jon

Greetings friends!

A LOT has happened since our last news update.

We have a big announcement to make: We have decided to end the musical adventure known as "The Reception".

That being said, we're all still good friends, and there's no hard feelings. Many of you may have already heard rumours of this, but today we're making it official. It has been an amazing journey for all of us the past three years, and we will miss you guys! We've come a long way since our first show on February 13th, 2004. Some of the songs didn't even have all the lyrics written yet, and we had no idea that The Reception would go so far and last so long.

Our final shows will be this summer, and we'll keep you all updated on the shows page (and on our myspace?). We're planning on putting on a big "farewell" show in mid-August, so keep your eyes open for that one.

As for our personal plans after this band, Jon is moving to Quebec City this fall to study there. Andrew will most likely stay here in Winnipeg and continue studying English at the U of M. He wants to become an English teacher. JP and Nick hope to continue pursuing a career in music...anyone need a drummer or a keyboard player?

We love you all, hope to see you at shows this summer!

The Reception (Nick, Andrew, Jon and JP)

Dear friends and fans, it has been oh so long since we last updated you on the happenings here in Reception Land. As many of you know, we joined forces with Absolute in February for another month of playing in junior and senior high schools throughout Ontario. We met and shared our music with many wonderful people and thank all those kind folk who made us feel so at home in towns and cities oh so far from home.

As February came to a close, The Reception decided to take a break. Jon and Andrew have returned to our beloved hometown of Winnipeg, while Nick and I (JP) are having fun traveling throughout much of Canada, playing with a band based out of Kelowna, BC called Beauti.

At the end of May, Nick and I will be returning to Winnipeg to rock your faces off, Reception style. We have a couple Winnipeg bookings in the works, so keep checking back for show updates. We look forward to mosquitoes, slurpees, Sunday night cruising down Portage Ave, and seeing all your lovely faces again.

Until next time, igaz béke lenni veled ! (That's Hungarian)

Hello Friends!

We are glad you took the time to stop by our e-home! This is the first official news update of the new year and we are happy to welcome the newest member of The Reception team...ladies and gentleman put your hands together, give it up for John Cusack! Ok, I'm lying. I'll let you guys in on a little secret. It's not John Cusack. It is our new manager from HD Artist, Derek Eastveld! We're excited about the opportunity to work with our long time friend and now business partner. So from now on if you ever want to speak at all to the four of us, you'll have to give the message to Derek, and he will contact us. Just kidding! haha...
We are getting ready to head out on the road again for the next five months! Starting January 14th(ish) we'll be playing some shows in Wawa, Sudbury, and Timmins on our way to Hamilton where we will meet up once again with our friends from Absolute. This tour will take us to Ontario, P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta, Manitoba, and get this...the Northwest Territories! Don't worry, that part is not until May, so hopefully the cold won't be a huge factor. (crossing fingers!) So check out Absolute's myspace to see if we are coming to your town!
We would like to thank everyone who made it out the show on January 2nd. It was awesome to play for our much loved Winnipeg peeps. You rock! Thanks to Rory, Jarrett, Dannie, Naomi, Accepting Silence, Every New Day, Chris and everyone at the WECC, and everyone else who helped make the evening a night to remember! Blessings to all! We would also like to take this time to inform you all of a show we are playing on January 12th at the Winnipeg Christian Centre. It is fundraiser for the Siloam Mission. For more info, check out the shows page.
K, this is getting long...I'm going to revert to point form.

The Reception-
...bought a sweet '99 Dodge Conversion Van. yippee!
...is currently writing some new tunes.
...is planning to record their second full length album this summer!
...loves you all to pieces!

Smiles and Hugs,
Nick on behalf of The Reception

Greetings from the great white north. We have just returned from beautiful northern Ontario. We have had some great opportunites to reach out to junior high and high school students of Sudbury, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls, Lively, Matheson, and other towns that you've probably never heard of. Many exciting "firsts" occured up there in the Yukon... I mean northern Ontario. A show in Kirkland Lake was canceled due to the school double booking us with the "Family Life Theatre," our fire extinguisher exploded while we were traveling causing us to evacuate for 10 minutes, our awesome tour bus received a parking ticket during a school presentation, and... (drum roll please)... we are officially booked to tour with Absolute again for the winter/spring months of 2007! We are very excited to have the opportunity to partner with Absolute and to minister to the students of Canada. Heyo!
Having finished this short two week tour in northern Ontario, we will be remaining in Hamilton for the last three weeks of tour. Then I'm off to Seattle for xmas, while the rest of the boys enjoy their holidays back in Winnipeg. Can't wait to see all you Winnipegers soon!

Until then,
Peace on Earth and good will toward men, women, boys, girls...and you.

Hey guys! The last month and a half has been a blast! We've been touring with the absolute team across western Canada. Not only have we played many a highschool show, but we've been able to see some cool sights as well. We visited Nick's family in Washington state, ate our first dragon fruit in Vancouver, had deep fried ice cream in Seattle (don't knock it til you try it) in celebration of Nick's twenty sixth birthday, got some sweet bandanas from a Japanese dollar store (keep your eyes open for those at our next show), and got arrested for smuggling tennis rackets across the border (ok the last part's a lie... sort of... but seriously though)...

Through the absolute presentation we've had the awesome opportunity to encourage students to dream big and make a difference in their world. There's nothing more fulfilling than to know you are making a positive difference in the lives of others. God has been so faithful to us, providing for our every need along the way, we were at first stressed about finding transportation back, but we know that the needs we have will not be unmet. Nick, the token American in our band, got a visitor Visa extension in the mail yesterday, so he's allowed to stay in the country until May! He's still waiting on his permanent residency application to come through, and we'd appreciate your prayers for that.

So starting next week we will be touring in Ontario for the next one and a half months, playing highschool shows and hopefully evening concerts, but for now, we have a week off in Hamilton to relax, bathe and practice our ping-pong skills.

You can now order CDs and Shirts directly from our website, just click on the merch page, and away you go! Also, make sure to stop by our myspace in the next while, as a new song will magically appear in cyberspace shortly. BE THERE!

Happy Halloween to you all! We'll see you guys at the post halloween chocolate sales! mmm... chocolate...

On behalf of the Receptioneers

warmest salutations,

NICKandANDREW

Hello again friends. There's lots of exciting stuff happening with us here. We just spent the last two days in Unison Studios, recording a track for the RAW NRG 2006 Band Battle Compilation CD. If you've been to a Reception show recently, you'll possibly have heard some unfamiliar tunes; you know, the ones that you can't sing along with because they're not on the CD. Well, we decided to record one of our new songs, but you'll have to wait to see which one it is. We'll let you know when it's all mixed and ready for your listening pleasure. We unfortunately did not win the battle, but ranked as a top finalist. Congrats to Alverstone for taking the cake in this years competition.

We've had lots of fun over the past few weeks, playing shows for many faces, both familiar and not. Some highlights were the Winkler Harvest Festival with our good buddies from Sunday Night Cruise and playing both at the Forks and at the Convention Centre for the National Lutheran Youth Gathering. Special props (and tons of points) to our new friends from Kitchener and southern Ontario.

We've got two shows coming up this weekend before we take off for the Absolute Tour. We've been informed that we'll be on Team 2, touring western Canada, so check back on our shows page for updated tour schedules. We might just show up at YOUR highschool!

To our studious friends, enjoy the last days of summer break and the beginning of the new school year. New classrooms, new teachers, new classmates, new crushes, new assignments. Good times! To our not so studious friends, don't let "them" catch you ridin' dirtay.

Hey guys! This weekend CBC Radio is going to air a piece on us that they recorded a while back. It'll be on the show Shaken Not Stirred, which airs at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 19th on CBC Radio One (990 in Winnipeg) and at noon on Sunday, August 20th on CBC Radio Two (98.3 in Winnipeg). You can also listen online at www.cbc.ca.

In other news, we've got five shows in Manitoba over the next week and a half before we hit the road for The Absolute Tour! We'll be on the road for three and a half months, but we'll do our best to keep you up to date with what's going on while we're away.

YO YO YO!!!

It's July, and we're on summer holidays! Jon`s in Quebec, being a camp counsellor / worship leader. JP's in Europe somewhere, connecting with his German ancestry and having fun, Nick's working at the International Music Camp for a month as an equipment manager and then dean, and I, Andrew am taking a french immersion program in a lovely little town in Quebec called Trois-Pistoles.

We have some sad news: we won't be performing at this year's Harvest Moon Festival. We were looking forward to it very much, but due to unforseen circumstances we have to cancel. Maybe next year!

Here are some interesting sites to visit:

My favorite poem
A sweet band called A Place Tomorrow
A young band called Elyon, who sound alot like... the next big thing.

We're gonna be back in Winnipeg around the beginning of August, so watch out! Much love!

Yesterday we were in the semi-finals for a battle of the bands at
The Pyramid, a cool little club downtown, and WE ADVANCED TO THE FINAL ROUND! SWEET! So, we'll be playing the final round of the battle this friday, June 16, and we would appreciate it if you guys came, please.

We love talking to you guys after shows, I know that we're often busy with "band" stuff, but please just grab us and talk to us for a minute next time you see us. It's good to hang out. In other news, I think we'll have our beloved van back on monday! So sweet! No more asking our parents to borrow their vehicles! hooray!

Hey you guys! How the heck are y'all doin'?

We've had a fantastic past few weeks of touring and practicing and working and bustin' out sweet licks at shows. Last weekend we were in Lloydminster, and wow! People were so nice to us, and some of them even knew the words to our songs! And Joel's mom made us a delicious supper! It warms my heart to think of it now... *tear*. Man, I feel like it's been too long since I've seen a lot of you, we should all go for big gulps sometime.

BIG NEWS: We will be playing at this year's HARVEST MOON FESTIVAL! It's a festival in Edmonton, and this year's bands include: MXPX, Blindside, and Copeland! INCREDIBLE! WE'RE SO STOKED! IT SHOULD BE ONE AWESOME WEEKEND. IF YOU'RE IN THE AREA COME OUT AND HEAR SOME GREAT MUSIC! Phew! All this yelling makes me tired. See you guys!

Three things:
-One- Come see us play on Saturday at the Albert! We're playing alongside some swell bands, but it is unfortunately an 18+ show (sorry Junior). Click here for show info.
-Two- There are new pictures up from our Youth Encounter gig! Click here to see them.
-Three- We are happy to announce that we have advanced to the fourth round of the RA NRG Battle of the Bands. We don't know our next battle night, but we'll let you know when we do and we'd really appreciate your support.
Shalom my friends,

Andrew

Well well well, so this is my first time updating the ol’ website. Hopefully I can rightly make up for the last two months of inactivity in the news department. First of all, I’d like to thank my good friend JP for taking good care of this website, because he has been the only one who can realistically manage and keep it up. You rock my socks! Now it’s my turn to try my hand at it. Eek!
Winnipeg has seen quite a lot of The Reception in February and March. Thanks to all our friends and fans that make it out to those local shows. It is very encouraging to us. It feeds our souls!
We have had the chance to play with some pretty sweet bands in the last little while: Neken, Sick City, Means, A Place Tomorrow, The Most, Ethan, Katelyn, Chance for Tomorrow to name a few. We love you all!! We’ve also got some sweet shows lined up for the next couple months, so don’t be a stranger to the shows page .
In other news, we made our radio debut on Power 97’s River City Rawk Show. It was fun. Hopefully we can do more if this radio thing in the near future, so Keep your ears open, and your radios on! Unless your listening to our disc, then that’s cool too!
Thanks to all of you who voted for us on West49’s battle of the bands. Alas, we did end up losing to a couple bands who are a bunch of CHEATERS!!!!! Haha…just kidding…I’m sure they are some cool dudes.
Speaking of band battles, we managed to make it to the next round of the RA NRG band battle at the Pyramid Cabaret. We’ll be posting our next appearance shortly. Please stay tuned…if you want…
Now it’s story time!! However it’s too long to put in story form, so I will describe it in a short outline.

1. Band members and friends drove down to Fargo for Emery/Anberlin show
2. Succeed in making it past border patrol
3. Reception van breaks down just over border
a. Engine is caput
4. Band members and friends hitchhike back to nearest U.S. town
5. Van is towed to Grand Forks while passengers buy a ride to Grand Forks with tow truck person’s friend
6. Concert goers rent van to arrive just in time for show
7. Show is awesome
8. Happy concert goers drive back to Winnipeg making it safely past border patrol
9. Two concert goers drive back the next day to return rental van
10. Drive back to Winnipeg in the tow truck, towing the injured Reception van.

Bottom line. We have no engine…and consequently no van at the moment. So if you or anyone you know has a GMC Safari, Astrovan, or appropriate engine they would like to sell, let us know. We are open to options!!
In other Reception happenings, our song Berlin has been selected to be on a compilation CD called The Joshua Project, which features 31 different Winnipeg Christian artists. The CD will be available to purchase after April 1st. Proceeds will go towards Salvation Army and the Mennonite Central Committee.
Anywho, thanks for stopping by. Keep checkin’ out the site to see what’s new, or not so new!
Go in peace my friends!
Nick

Hey You Guys! How are you? We're doing awesome! We just played a show on Saturday with a band called Kutless! The show went very well, we had a lot of fun on stage, and we got to make lots of new friends. Some highlights of the night were: meeting Kutless, they're awesome, and they let us play some really nice gear! There were lots of people there, more than a thousand. It was sweet! Thanks to everyone who has helped us recently: Adrian and Providence College, Alyssa Rempel, Arlen, Every New Day, Sunday Night Cruise, Jason Bernstein, and all our other awesome friends. Important stuff: we're looking at taking things more seriously next year, and commiting more time to touring, so please be on the lookout for that, and if you remember to, pray for us, we need lots of prayer. We have a new song we've been playing, and another one well on it's way; keep an ear to the ground for those, and we hope to see you soon!
P.s. We have new hoodies! They're HAWT!
