Hot weather riding tips

Intro:

Hot weather riding is something that most motorcycle riders face at some point during the season.

Of course not all hot weather motorcycle riding is created equal. There is hot weather riding and then there is HOT WEATHER riding for prolonged periods. The former can be represent a mild inconvenience. The latter can potentially be deadly.

Hot weather motorcycle riding for long periods of time ranks right up there with other extreme sport activities. It can be a brutal assault. I remember what crossing the Mojave desert mid summer was like.

We are in a battle to stave off body heating. Being able to manage this heat up-take and do it consistently during a multi day tour requires having a plan. It means that we have to hunker down and get into survival mode.

Getting into survival mode means looking at every facet that affects our performance in the heat and determine ways to increase it.

Note:

There are many tactics effective to use when riding in hot weather. Too many to list here.

This section is meant to foster thinking about effective tactics to use for hot weather riding. It represents approaches that I’ve found effective when dealing with mid-summer heat. Though these concepts relate to prolonged riding in the hot weather, many also apply to shorter rides in the heat.

Not everyone wants to read the same level of detail, so I’ve structured it on a drill down basis. You can go deeper into a topic by clicking the links.
