Experience Newfoundland

The Codroy River Valley:

Related notes

Background

Maclellan Inn

The weather today seems uncertain as I prepare to tour the Codroy River Valley. It looks like it's clearing but then it gets worse, and then better again. The old saying in Newfoundland is that if you don't care for the weather, give it a bit, it's bound to change. And so it is in Doyles this morning.

Before setting out for the day, I take a few moments to take in the peaceful view from the back terrace of the Maclellan Inn. Wonderful. This is a perfect setting to establish a home base for a couple of days.

I'm
surrounded by deep gorge mountains, water, and a lush habitat. All common elements of the charming scenery found in the Codroy Valley. The early morning fog and mist provides a special and quiet feel. As I sit there sipping a cup of tea,
I realize what a perfect setting this is to disconnect from daily stress.

The mist and drizzle gives everything a soft focus look.

Designated as a Wetlands of International Importance, the Grand Codroy River Estuary is quite unique and provides a fertile habitat for a remarkable variety of bird life.

I head out slowly this morning. The roads are quiet. The rain comes and goes.
