Experience Newfoundland

Lomond River - Trout River: Part 2

Soon I arrive at Woody Point. This is a charming historic town with a population of approx 400. I find it quite rewarding as I linger a little, leisurely walking and exploring along the waterfront.

A slow tour down main street and I discover the Lighthouse Restaurant. Perfect to have dinner at tonight. Directly facing the docks, it has a great view of Bonne Bay.

Rain, mist, and clouds.

The Tablelands are visually quite striking.

Riding through this area feels like I could be in Utah. The long road punctuated by mild sweepers is cast amid barren but colorful terrain. However, today is a rainy-misty day and much of the colour is lost.

The Tablelands are thought to be evidence of continental drift. Geologists believe that deep ocean crust and the earth's mantle collided, thrusting this mantle rock to the surface. This was considered to be of such geological significance that UNESCO designated Gros Morne National Park as a World Heritage Site.
