FAST
Riding School
(F.A.S.T. Riding School)
School Background and Intro:Michel
Mercier (founder) has been operating the
FAST Riding School for the past 16 years.
In addition to many Canadian titles in
various racing divisions and categories,
Michel Mercier won three Canadian
National Superbike Championships. To the
many motorcycle race fans who knew him,
his career and riding style was
characterized by a strong passion. Today
Michel Mercier still conveys this passion
in his motorcycle riding schools
curriculum.
The present day FAST
Riding School actually began as
FAST Racing School. At that time, the
motorcycle riding school offered students
the opportunity to participate in a
student championship race series. This
low cost option allowed a non-racer to
experience the thrill of racing in a fun
and safer environment. The winner of the
Championship was offered a ride in a race
series for the following year.
Over time, the Racing
orientation gave way to a Performance
Riding approach. FAST Riding School
mainly operates out of the Shannonville
Motorsport Park and offers three levels
of motorcycle training:
Phase
1:
Covers the basics of motorcycle
performance riding as applied to the
track. It is held on the Nelson circuit
of the Shannonville Motorsport
Park. The tighter and more technical
Nelson circuit offers an ideal layout for
skill building.
Phase 2: Builds on basics
introduced in Phase 1 and is held on the
longer and faster Fabi circuit at Shannonville
Motorsport Park.
Phase 3: Also held on Fabi
circuit and of particular interest to
riders who want to raise the stakes or
might have an interest in racing as a
sport.
Instructors:
FAST instructors include
long-term veterans as well as more recent
additions. But they all share one thing
in common. They have all been (and some
continue to be) top competitors in
various racing categories.
Equipment:
FAST Riding School
supplies all needed equipment
including helmet, track leathers, and
boots.
You can choose from 3
models of motocycles for your FAST class:
Suzuki GSX-R 600 (04)
Suzuki SV650 S (04)
Yamaha YZF-R6 (05)
