Treating Gore Tex waterproof
motorcycle boots:

As with Gore Tex waterproof clothing, we want water to be beading up on the surface and rolling off. This prevents the water droplet to be absorbed into the surface and ensures that the textile, leather etc can continue to be permeable to allow the Gore Tex membrane to breathe.

The opposite of surface beading is surface wetting. This is when water seeps into the fabric or leather. At this point, permeability is obstructed. The surface will also remain wet for a much longer period of time.

So what to do?

Keep the leather clean by brushing or wiping off dirt is a good first step. Surface dirt (ie dust in the crevices of leather) soaks up water and promotes surface wetting.

Avoid or limit the use of traditional leather polishes and waterproofing agents that would clog the pores of the leather.

Use Durable Water Repellent (DWR) products that are designed for use in Gore Tex products involving leather. These products will encourage surface beading and not clog the permeabilty of your waterproof motorcycle boots.
