 This wonderful story begins in 1907, when
Urgel Santoire, a metallurgist, left his position to go to work for the Casavant brothers, a pipe organ building firm. He possessed an expertise in working with various metals, and was therefore a great asset to the Casavants. Among Urgel Santoire’s sons, he had one named Georges who visited him often at the shop. At just 12 years of age, he was already often assisting his father with his work. Urgel saw even then that his son’s interest wasn’t just in his particular job— working with the metals needed for organ building— but in fact encompassed the entire process of organ building.
