Ranis Athrys' Quests, ( Balmora Mage's Guild)
Telvanni Recruitment
- A recruitment trip to a Telvanni in Sulipund.
This is the first quest offered by Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild once you reach the rank of Journeyman. You are to recruit a Telvanni named Llarer
Bereloth in Sulipund. Unfortunately, if you cannot convince him you must kill him. Ranis marks the stronghold of Marandas on your map, and Sulipund is just
North of that. Llarer is on the top level of Sulipund and initially refuses your requests to join the guild. You must raise his disposition
to 70+ before he will agree to join.
Return to Ranis.
Reward: 4 Quality Restore Magicka potions and a +10 disposition.
Guild Dues - Retrieve guild dues from a mages guild member in Punabi.
This is the first quest offered by Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild once you reach the rank of Journeyman. You are to collect the guild dues from
Manwe in Punabi. She hasn't paid in several years and now owes 2000 septims. If you cannot collect the dues, you must kill her. Ranis marks the stronghold
of Marandas on your map, and Punabi is just North of that. Manwe is just inside the entrance to Punabi. She will agree to pay you the 2000 if her
disposition is high enough (around 70).
Return to Ranis.
Reward: 1000 gold (from the 2000 gold which Manwe gave you) and an
increase in disposition.
Unsanctioned Training - Stop an Argonian from offering Restoration training without the Guild's approval.
Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild asks you to stop an Argonian in the South Wall Cornerclub from offering unsanctioned training in Restoration. The
Argonian is in the basement of the Cornerclub and is easy to stop being the only Argonian around (Only-He-Stands-There). When you talk to him about his
unsanctioned training, he suggests that you return to Ranis and tell her that he would stop, and he would offer his services to you. The only other options
are to kill him or raise his disposition high enough to convince him to stop (around 60).
Reward: an increase in disposition.
Escort Itermerel - Escort the scholar Itermerel to Pelagiad.
Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild asks you escort the scholar Itermerel to Pelagiad, a ways South East of Vivec, just North of Seyda Neen. In addition,
Ranis would also like you to retrieve a copy of Itermerel's notes for her to study. Itermerel is waiting for you at the Eight Plates in Balmora and wishes
to be escorted to the Halfway Tavern in Pelagiad. As with any escort, keep an eye on him as during your escort. Once you reach the tavern he will stop
following you automatically. Talk with him again to receive his notes for Ranis.
Reward: an increase in disposition.
Necromancy in Maar Gan - Investigate a case of necromancy in Maar Gan.
Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild believes that Tashpi Ashibael in Maar has been practicing necromancy and must be killed. Maar Gan is far North, past
Ald'ruhn and can be reached on Silt Strider. When you confront Tashpi about being a necromancer, she seems rather surprised, though once you mentioned
Ranis she seems to understand. Evidently Tashpi refused to join the mages guild and Ranis has held a grudge since then. Tashpi has not been performing
necromancy, but acts as the local healer (which is also the story you'll hear if you ask the locals in town). Tashpi suggests that you let her go and she
will disappear, and you are to tell Ranis that she is dead. Otherwise, the only other solution is to kill Tashpi.
Reward: with an increase in disposition and two scrolls of Elemental
Burst: Fire, and two scrolls of The Fourth Barrier.
Telvanni Spy - Search for a Telvanni spy who has infiltrated the Mage's Guild.
Ranis Athrys in the Balmora guild believes that the Guild has been infiltrated by a Telvanni spy. You are to visit the Guild halls in Ald'ruhn,
Vivec, and Sadrith Mora to find the spy and report back to Ranis. Of course, the logical thing would be to just grab the Guild
teleport, otherwise that's a lot of walking to do. In the Ald'ruhn guild, Edwinna Elbert seems to
have no idea about the spy. In Sadrith Mora, Skink-in-Tree's-Shade does suspect there is a spy, but suggests to check in Vivec where the guild
decisions are actually made. In Vivec, Trebonius Artorius denies the existence of spies, saying that his advisor Tiram Gadar keeps an eye out for
that sort of thing. If you inquire further Trebonius will give you Tiram's credentials which appear
suspect (Ocato's name is spelled wrong). Return to Ranis with the fake
credentials.
Reward: an increase in disposition, two scrolls of Summon Golden Saint and Soul
Drinker a magical daedric dagger.
There's an alternate ending to the quest if you let Itermerel and Tashpi
live. When you talk to Artorius report that Ranis Athrys is the spy and is
kicked out of the guild, with you still getting credit for completing the quest.
