In the bay of Puno, on the floating island, Urus Indians lived a long time ago. In Inca times, they were forced to establish themselves on the main land. In colonial time, they worked in the mines and the Inca race died. Living since then on Uros are the Aymaras. They took back the old ways of living of the Urus Indians.


They don't use the boats made of reeds anymore. On the island, the reeds have to be changed every 6 months.
