"The Unreleased Live Album"

Eric planned to release a double live album in 1987, based on shows from

1986 and 1987. I am including the dates and venues of all shows recorded

because (and I *can't* guarantee this) there is a chance that a recorded

show has found its way onto a bootleg, and if it was professionally recorded

then there's a chance it will be of better quality. Incidentally, the album

was abandoned when "Crossroads" and "The Cream of Eric Clapton" were

released, because Polydor were afraid of swamping the market. So here, then,

are the shows that were recorded for the project. (J.M.)

10/7/86 - Le Casino, Montreux. "Cocaine" and "Sunshine of Your Love"

from this show were intended for release.

14/7/86 - Birmingham National Exhibition Centre. Nothing ever issued.

15/7/86 - Birmingham National Exhibition Centre. "White Room", "Same

Old Blues", "Holy Mother" and "Further On Up The Road" from

this show were intended for release. Indeed, this show is

available on video and much of it has been subsequently

           released on CD singles/12"s.

10/1/87 - Royal Albert Hall, London. "Miss You" from this show was

           intended for release.

11/1/87 - Royal Albert Hall, London. Nothing ever issued.

12/1/87 - Royal Albert Hall, London. "I Shot The Sheriff", "Hung Up On

Your Love", "Tearing Us Apart" and "Layla" from this show

           were intended for release.

26/4/87 - Providence Civic Centre. "Wonderful Tonight" from this show

           was intended for release.

27/4/87 - Madison Square Garden, New York. "Badge & Let It Rain" from

this show was intended for release.

This is the complete show. Its sound quality is definitely superior to "On

Further On Up The Road

The following was sent by an active contributor to the bootography comparing this release with

"Ec at NEC".

"Soundwise the Masterfile version is slightly inferior owing to its lower volume level. The CD

split // on the Masterfile Part 13 set comes prior to "Holy Mother", rather than "Tearing Us

Apart", which is a much better place to split the set as the audience goes very quiet at that point.

This recording is uninterrupted, and includes in its entirety Eric's introduction of Greg

Philinganes

prior to "Tearing Us Apart", as well as all of the applause at the end of the main set (~4 minutes)

and Eric's introduction of Robert Cray prior to the final encore. All of these are edited on "EC at

NEC"." (P.W.)

"Through The Years Volume 4" - Apple House Banana - BAN-005-D - sb5/sb5/3

Recorded in somewhere in Europe during 1987 (1), at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1990 (2)

and somewhere in the USA in 1993 (3). - See below for additional information.

11 tracks on 1 CD. Total Time : 64:26

1987 - EC/Mark Knopfler (Guitar)/Nathan East (Bass)/

Steve Ferrone (Drums)/Greg Phillinganes (Keyboards)

1990 - band unknown at this time. (See below)

1993 - EC/Chris Stainton (Keyboards)/Andy Fairweather-Low (Guitar)/

Donald 'Duck' Dunn (Bass)/Richie Hayward (Drums)/

       Jerry Portnoy (Harmonica)/Brass Section/Katie Kassoon (Vocals)/

Layla (Part One) (1)/Layla (Part Two) (1)/Money For Nothing (1)/

Sunshine of Your Love (1)/Pretending (2)/Running on Faith (2)/

Bad Love (2)/Lay Down Sally (2)/Hideaway (2)/All Your Love (2)/

Tears in Heaven (3)

Volume 4 (BAN-005-D) starts with 3 songs from the same night as Volume 3,

"Layla", "Money for Nothing" and "Sunshine of your love". Strangely the 2

drummers swap positions from the first CD! - Volume 3 has Phil Collins

mixed to the left, Steve Ferrone to the right, and Volume 4 has them the

other way around. Otherwise sound and mix quality for this part is

identical. The next 4 songs are from Royal Albert Hall 1990, probably

24/01/90. "Running on Faith" is identical to the version on "24 Nights",

and "Pretending" is identical to one broadcast on an MTV special here in

Australia "The four faces of Eric Clapton", which contained "White Room"

from the same night. Sound quality is about the same while it is not mixed

as exceptionally - a sb5. I have no idea where the last three songs were

recorded, but the sound is pretty bad, especially compared with the rest

of the CD. This is obviously an audience recording and I'd rate it about a

3 at best. (I.H. / R.B.)

The source for info on this CD suggested that it was recorded in Chicago in 1992, but the set-list leads me to think otherwise. Given these numbers, at least part of the CD *has* to be sourced from a tour in 1987, and, as luck would have it, there is Chicago show during the US tour that year. However, I'm really putting two and two together here and I may be getting a five! Be warned! (J.M.)
