A tremendous victory by the Canadian pair composed of
William Milroy and Mike Beres, against former world champion Howard
Bach, and his partner Khan Bob Malaythong (USA), 21-16/ 19-21/ 21-12,
in the finals of the Sports Experts Canadian Open, an international
badminton tournament held this weekend, in Laval (Quebec).
Eva Lee (USA) was the star of the day by virtue of her
triple crown.
n the Ladies Singles, Eva Lee beat local favorite and
legend in the badminton world, Denyse Julien (Canada), by a score of
21-12/ 21-12.
Denyse Julien came out of retirement for this event and she was able to
reach the finals, a feat in itself.
In the Men's singles, top seeded Richard Vaughan (Wales)
was surprised by Toby Honey (England), by a score of 21-19/ 21-13.
Vaughan, ranked 33th in the world prior to the event, was beaten by a
player ranked 99th. Honey used a style generally associated to Vaughan:
limit the mistakes and set your own pace to the game.
In the Mixed Doubles, the Canadian pair composed of
William Milroy and Tammy Sun, was beaten by a tough team, Howard Bach
and Eva Lee (USA), 21-15/ 21-15.
In the last event of the day, the Ladies Doubles, Eva Lee
and her partner Mesinee Mangkalakiri (USA) downed Huwaina Razi (SUI) and
Caren Hueckstaedt (GER) by a score of 21-13/ 21-14.
The tournament was a success and it will be back at the
same place next yeat, which is the National training badminton center,
located in Laval (Quebec).
