Bio
Stephen Weiss has been teaching lessons in classical, fingerstyle and popular styles of guitar music to students of all ages and levels for the past thirteen years. After obtaining his Bachelor of Music in Music Education Degree (University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon SK), he taught in the public school system, the Mount Royal University Conservatory (Calgary AB) and now at his private home studio in the West Island of Montréal QC.
His past performance experience includes solo guitar music, a concerto with string orchestra, various chamber music settings with flutists and soprano vocalists, and guitar duo and quartet performances in university faculty concert series. Stephen has also performed lead and rhythm guitar in styles folk, rock, blues, 'a bit of jazz', and Celtic - a diversity he embraces strongly because of the wealth of culture and knowledge to be learned and enjoyed by engulfing oneself in a multitude of beautiful music. His recent performances were for private functions at Chateau Lake Louise, various performance locations in Banff and Calgary AB, L'Auberge des Gallants, Château Montebello QC, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Mont Tremblant, Parisian Laundry, l'Hôtel Lac Carling, Botanical Gardens (Montreal), l'Orée du Bois (Sainte-Adèle QC), Villa Armando and other venues.
Stephen is currently working on guitar standards by Bach, Albéniz, Barrios, and Garoto, while experimenting with new warm-up and technique-efficiency ideas which he regularly shares with his eager students during their lessons. He delves a bit into the acoustic fingerstyle world on an "ol' J45" now and then, which leads to a bit of arranging, transcribing, experimenting and true pleasure as the steel strings inspire a different realm of exploration.
