The Canterbury Tales
by Groffrey Chaucer
(Note: Host size restriction: this demo page links only to the introduction. Contact athalheim@videotron.ca for the complete version.)
The Goal:
Produce a document where all the needed information lies in the same page.
Production Notes:
- All the text and glossary was found on 'http://www.librarius.com'. What a fine site!
- Using VB, XMLSPY and patience, the data was extracted in an XML file.
- Using VB, the data was then formatted in two-section pages in a second XML file.
- The first part of the page (the text) contains the original version on the left and the modern version on the right.
- All the words referenced in the first part of the page (the text) are listed in the second part (the glossary).
- Using FOP, the XML file was formatted to produce PDF files of each chapter.
- The PDF files are formatted to print two-sided on A5 paper.
- This will produce a 688 pages book.
